Hello. Hello. Question, when you think of speaking on stage, what image comes to mind? It might be on an elevated platform holding a microphone with a sea of people sitting in chairs. In this day and age, the biggest stage we have before us is not that image. It's the virtual stage, you know, at the click of a record or go live button. That's it. Boom, you are out to the world. And this is the stage we're speaking about today with my guest Alex Grzybek. So Alex walked out of hospital in July, 2019 with no job, no business. Her income was zero and her self-confidence as she describes it, non-existent. I'll let Alex share more of her story in the episode. So she went from that level of rock bottom to building a business that helps female entrepreneurs who struggle with confidence like she did make money online through the virtual stage.
So in this episode, Alex shares how you can make money through virtual events even if you have no experience. And Alex is the speaker right after me at the Women Thrive Summit on March 20th. If you haven't registered yet, hit the link in the show notes and register for my talk. It's the opening talk, it's free. And then after me, Alex explains the detail of her webinar Rockstar formula. So this will be in her talk at the summit. So make sure you sign up for both of our talks. And, my sincere apologies, I dunno what the hell was going on with my microphone in this recording. The gain or something or rather was way too high. I've done a bit of audio editing magic in the background. You're still gonna notice it, so please power through because the conversation is fantastic. Let's get into it.
Sally:
Alex Grzybek, it is so great to have you on that voice podcast. How are you going?
Alex:
I am very good. Thank you so much Sally, for having me on, it's an honor to be here.
Sally:
And just before you noticed I'm in no sleeves. It's very hot here in Brisbane. You are wrapped up in a beautiful pink jumper. Whereabouts are you?
Alex:
I'm in Europe and I'm in Spain and actually the sun is shining and it's like beautiful out there, but this morning was like three degrees celsius. So you know, we do have the winter in Spain as well. Yes. Even though the sun is shining.
Sally:
Oh, I'm so excited. My brother lives in Barcelona and I'm going to be over there in May. So hopefully things will be warming up a little bit by then. So Alex, explain on how you have built your business and who it is you serve.
Alex:
All right, so just cutting the long story short, like few years ago I had to start over. I had to completely rebrand my business. I started with like no business, no income, no confidence as well at that time because of many traumatic experiences that happened to me. And I actually started from the beginning. So I needed to rebuild my confidence first and then actually decide what I would like my business to focus on and how to actually get clients, right? So from the beginning, and I actually came across a mentor at that time where she was teaching how to create online courses, how to do all of these kind of programs. And it was also through using webinars and online events like challenges or master classes. And it was like the whole system, how to make it happen. So I had no idea how to make it happen before, but I started and I actually started from like zero clients to hosting my very first event and then doing them like twice or three times a month and getting clients for my programs, digital courses for my one-to-one premium packages for my mentoring, coaching, et cetera.
Alex:
And I've been doing this to this day. And actually last year I decided, cause I got a lot of questions from people, how did I do that and how do I do it? So actually at the moment, like my second business is actually helping coaches, consultants, like people who serve their expertise and their knowledge online, how to actually host their own events like masterclass webinars or challenges and increase their visibility and make an impact and of course get consistent flow of clients through the power of speaking online.
Sally:
Alex, that is so inspirational. How did you take that first step when you were at a very low point, you didn't have any income, any business, you know, to go from that to then be showing up online? How did you take that first step?
Alex:
That's actually a very good question. Well at that time of course it was a lot of inner work as well, cause I really, I felt a lot of like, you know, crazy things happening in my life health wise and other things as well. So I lost my identity and I was always like very active person. I was running, I had my side hustle, Active Happy Mama where I was running with doggy, completing marathons, inspiring other moms. And then I went through like a couple of miscarriages and I was put to walk in crotches because I had the hip injury. So like, you know, basically my identity as a sports person and as an Active Happy Mama was lost. So I really felt down. But thanks to the years of personal developments earlier, I was able to connect to the tools and resources that, you know, Tony Robb and all these other amazing people were teaching us.
Alex:
So I started like rebuilding my confidence first working very much inward. And then I just, when I accepted my situation and started trusting that it's all here for a reason, I don't know yet what is the reason, but maybe I will find out. When I stopped pushing and like, 'Why this is happening to me?' And still resisting. When I surrendered and accepted, I actually started getting inspired inspiring ideas and people, opportunities started to, to to come to me. So at that time, you know, this mentor came to me as well and I invested to work with her. Well invested is actually interesting word because I had no money at that time. So I basically put deposit on the credit card and believing that I will make it work. And I did.
Sally:
Yeah. So I work with lots of women in business like yourself and of course I say, Get online, do a webinar, do something out there. And you would hear this as well, hesitations around that. It's like, Oh my gosh, what are people gonna think and what do I say and what if and what if!
Alex:
You know, this hesitation, like hesitation is actually very soft word, sometimes like, No, I don't want to do it, like ever, no! People are afraid to actually, you know, speak online. Having said that, like you know, Come on, we're living in such an amazing time that we can connect globally. Like come on, I, Spain and, Australia. Like few years ago. It wouldn't be even possible for us to connect ever. So just by, you know, hitting the record and you know, we're talking to each other right now, but like you can speak to many instead of one and you can actually leverage your message. So let's say when you have your event, whether you have 10 people or hundred or a thousand, you are making a bigger impact and you can help with your product or service. Different people. And I know that people are afraid of public speaking. They think that it requires a lot of tech skills and a lot of like, hassle.
Alex:
But really it's not as complicated as we think. And when we actually, when somebody grabs your hand and shows you how to do it step by step, the person who has done it, who has done a lot of mistakes, it can save you years of trial and error. And it can save you a lot of frustration along the way because you know, some people like I've done it so I know what is working, what is not working, what is waste of time or what is waste of money. So even like considering different software programs or whatever you can find out from somebody who knows about it and once you start doing it, you'll get better and better and better. But you know, for me, when I had like absolute like zero clients and I hosted my very first event, I didn't have even a program to like, so I just invited people for one-to-one call and I asked them what is their challenge?
Alex:
What is their problem? Because of course around the topic. But I created and automated offers for different people depending what they wanted. So it was kind of on the go. I didn't have it ready. But then by the third, fourth webinar, based on those questions, based on those clients, I had the idea for the online course which I launched. Yes. I wouldn't be able to do that if I didn't start by asking those questions. Just sitting and hoping that the idea will come to me, how to create my online course. It wouldn't happen this way. It doesn't happen this way.
Sally:
Mm. It's such a common mistake, isn't it? I know for me, I did that as well. My very first online course I was like, this is what I'm gonna say, this is what I'm gonna do. And then nobody bought it because nobody asked for it. So then when you start asking what people want and then creating it for them, it totally changes the game, doesn't it? Yeah. Because the confidence to speak, it's not just about hitting live on those webinars, it's also about having the confidence to have those conversations beforehand.
Alex:
Exactly. Exactly.
Sally:
Yeah. So what happens if you're starting out and you, you do one of these webinars and nobody turns up?
Alex:
Well, you do the second one!
Sally:
Has this ever happened to you?
Alex:
Well actually yes I did. I did like, I think like webinar, like at the beginning I remember I did the webinar about confidence kind of in general. And three people, no actually three people showed up, but they had some kind of technical glitches. So two just, I dunno appeared and like one lady was there, absolutely not interested in the topic, she just wanted me to speak English cause she wanted to just, you know, refresh her English. So it was like interesting. But I still kept going. Yes, I kept going and then I kind of stepped back and looked what was working, what was not working, what do I need to do differently? And there are like many things that are connected with whether it's going to work or not. Yes. Like for example, like the title of your webinar determines what kind of people you are attracting.
Alex:
It should determine what kind of people you attract and what kind of people will be there. Because you are not for everybody and your webinar is not for everybody. Even if you're talking about like, you know, for example, my webinar was about confidence, but confidence in what? In career, in business, in relationship, in sport. In like, I mean in what? It's not a specific or you know, like how to make money online. I mean not like from what, from selling t-shirts or from, I don't know, running events or it has to be like, you know, the title and the whole kind of sign up page for the webinar. It has to have the purpose, it has to be niche down. And it's not only about having like, I dunno, thousand people. It's about having the right people. Cause sometimes you can have like, you know, 20 people register like, you know, 10 whatever live, and you can have clients outta it.
Alex:
And sometimes you can have thousands and nobody's going to buy from you because they're just not this, the right people. So actually knowing how to do it right from the beginning is, is key to avoid like the mistakes and the title and the whole signup page is critical here. And of course then you need to know how to fill this webinar so you know, how to use the marketing and selling this webinar even if it's free, but like selling this to people so they would like to come and they cannot wait to join you.
Sally:
And so much of it is detaching anything, meaning anything about you. So what I mean by that is I started with launching and in the beginning days when not many people bored, I was like, Oh my god, they hate me. What am I doing wrong? You know? And it's not about that. It's of course you have value to share and it's just looking at the data and taking yourself outta the equation and saying, No, I didn't do anything wrong. It's not about me or, or what I have to say. Maybe it is like the wording of what you are saying yet, but it's not anything about who you are as a person. And being able to step away and say, Okay, let's look at the sales page. Let's look at the title. Let's look at the marketing, let's look at all of these things. And then as you say, just go again, go again, go again. So what would you say, you've given us great tips already. What are some tips you might have missed about selling online?
Alex:
Well, the first thing is, I always say like when people are hesitating, when they are thinking about it, when they are procrastinating, they're saying that they're not ready. They're not Oprah or Tony Robbins yet. I'm like, well come on, I'm not Oprah and I'm not Tony Robbins. And you know, you, they, they didn't start first of all like that. And but you know, there is a saying that you don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great. And when you start and when you take action, you don't need to know all the 17 steps ahead to move forward. You just need to know the very first step. And when you take the very first step, the second one becomes clearer and you're like, Ok, now I know what to do. And also because you've taken the step, you are like, Okay, my confidence is higher right now, so I I do the third step and the fourth step, like, you know, Marie Forleo says that clarity comes from taking action, not from speaking and thinking about it.
Alex:
And it's so powerful. And for me, when I actually started, I actually have like, you know, the mantra, which is like, done is better than perfect. And this is like, you know, I don't mean that you need to do something of a low or lowest quality or whatever, it's not about that. I mean, you still wanna kind of have your brand, you still wanna position yourself, et cetera. But if you're waiting for the perfect moment, it's never gonna, it's never gonna happen. You'll never be ready. If you do the perfect webinar today, tomorrow you gonna make it better. So honestly, like, you know, spread the wings and learn how to climb in the meantime you will learn so much more. So that is like, you know, the biggest kind of tip I would say. Start with what you've got and then, you know, you'll be able to learn on the way and become better and better.
Sally:
Alex, you are coming out with the fire quotes today. I love it. It reminds me of the one that says, you don't wait to be ready to take action. Take action to be ready.
Alex:
Absolutely.
Sally:
So good. So if if someone listening to this is thinking, You know, I wanna start a business online, I dunno where to start, how can they get in touch with you?
Alex:
They can get in touch with me on, you can find me on my website alexgrzybek.com or @AlexGrzybek on Instagram or on Facebook or I do have a Confidence Rockstar podcast as well. So you know, I do believe that, you know, the links to different links will be in the show notes of this episode as well. So we can connect. And I really would like to kind of, you know, invite you, if you have a desire in your heart that you would like to reach more people, that you would like to be able to speak to people, it doesn't matter on the location. Cause your message matters. You have a mission, you have a passion to start your business in the first place. And if you're struggling to get clients, if you are frustrated that, What is wrong with me? Why it's not working, it's not about that.
Alex:
It's about like, you know, the maybe the strategy at the moment. It's not bringing you the results that you desire. So maybe we need to tweak like the, the strategy. And I really want to say that if you are thinking that, Oh, I'm afraid of public speaking, I'm not that tech savvy, ah, this is too much hassle with webinars, I can show, I can prove you that it's not the case. If you know the like simple step by step system, you can really start your events next month and what kind difference make to your impact, your, your income as well.
Sally:
Oh, amazing. And very soon, you and I are both speaking at the Women Thrive Summit. I am, I believe the opening speaker and Alex still right up after me. It's so exciting. Tell us a little bit about your talk.
Alex:
Yeah, my talk will be actually along those lines that we were speaking today. So my talk title is Become Virtual Events Rockstar. Double or tripple your income from speaking online, so you can work from anywhere in the world. So I'll be sharing with you my webinar rockstar formula there during the summit. Yeah, how to make it happen. And even if you have never done this before, you can and I'll show you how.
Sally:
Oh, I love that. So my talk is called The Key to Crack, the Confidence Code-- Your Voice. So we'll start off with all the ways that you can get your voice and your mindset and everything ready to go, the confidence to get out there. And then Alex will share all the fire strategies to put it into practice. So if you haven't yet registered for the summit, please do that. I will share the link in my show notes to do so if you come along live, it's free and we would both love to see you there.
Alex:
Absolutely.
Sally:
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Alex:
Anything else? I kind of, I always say that if you do have a desire in your heart, it's meant for you, otherwise it wouldn't be there in the first place. So if you do have a business and you would like to spread your wings and get more yeah, like make more impact and get more clients and let's explore how we can, we can do that together. And I promise you that it's not only about the clients, it's not only about the impact. So many opportunities will open up for you that you wouldn't believe. So if you would like to speak with speaker on stages like Sally and I, you know, it's really round around the corner, but you just need to trust yourself. If you want that, that it'll happen and it'll happen. You'll make it happen.
Sally:
Oh, trust yourself and it will happen. Alex Grzybek, thank you so much for coming on that voice podcast.
Alex:
Thank you so much for having me. It's been an honor. Thank you.
