Three guiding principles to help you structure a speech
A speech with no structure is like a house with no foundations. So before you jump on stage or enter a presentation without a plan, let me share with you three guiding principles I use with my client’s speeches (and my own) to create captivating content!
Number one – Know your key message.
Create one line that sums up what your speech is going to teach your audience. For example, mine is often simple, "your voice matters".
Number two - Use story looping.
Towards the beginning of your speech share a story and then towards the end revisit that story and give it an ending.
Number three - Obey the rule of three.
Create the content to work with the number three. This can be macro, eg. three core lessons. Or it can be used on a micro level in the sentences, eg. “your voice is strong, your voice is powerful, your voice is unique”.
